Civil Rights/Title VI

Title VI is a section of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 requiring that “No person in the United States shall on race, color or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.” Note that Title VI does not address gender discrimination. It only covers race, color and national origin. Other Civil Rights laws prohibit gender discrimination.

SECOG is committed to ensuring that no person is excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of or discriminated against under its projects, programs or activities on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, sex, or age, as provided in Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and 49 United States Code Section 5332.

Any person who believes that he or she has been subjected to discrimination under Title VI on the basis of race, color or national origin may file a Title VI complaint (see right) with SECOG within 180 days from the date of the alleged discrimination. Send to [email protected] or by mail to:
