The Regional Planning Work Program
Under the guidance of member municipalities, SECOG’s Regional Planning division periodically prepares the Regional Plan of Conservation and Development and takes on projects that help to improve local quality of life through regional coordination and support. We support local government jurisdictions and stakeholder groups to develop strategies, obtain technical expertise, and pursue funding and other resources to overcome collective community challenges. While our field is always evolving to meet new needs, at core, we assist communities in using land use tools related to development, conservation, and public infrastructure, and support local governance in service of a thriving Southeastern Connecticut.
SECOG’s regional planning staff develop plans and studies in the areas of housing, regional land use, economic development, environmental conservation, municipal services, climate resilience, hazard mitigation, and defense community coordination that combine data and analytics with the experiential knowledge of local residents and leaders throughout Southeastern Connecticut to yield action-oriented priorities. We continue to broaden and deepen our capacity not only to plan, but also to support the implementation of plan action items, especially where projects cross municipal boundaries or when acting at a regional scale can activate resources to solve widespread problems. SECOG Regional Planning staff manage grants and execute projects funded by state and federal institutions.
SECOG Regional Planning staff have a passion for the field of municipal and regional planning and for the Southeastern Connecticut region that we call home and that we are privileged to serve. The Regional Planning calendar below shows where and when our staff are out in the community as projects progress. If you see us in the field, please say hello! We are always eager to connect and learn of new ways to assist residents in our region.
